Markets in Karachi: Famous, Cheap and Local Bazaars

The most famous markets in Karachi are Saddar (Zainab Market, Empress Market, Bohri Bazar), Tariq Road, Hyderi Market, Liaquatabad and Lighthouse, with Sunday bazaars and malls filling the gaps. Saddar is the biggest and cheapest overall, Tariq Road is the clothes and bridal street, and Lighthouse is the city's best-known second-hand market. Here is what each one is good for.

Saddar: the biggest market in Karachi

Saddar is a whole district of markets rather than one building. Zainab Market is famous for leather jackets, jeans and export-surplus clothing; Empress Market, the Victorian-era market building, for spices, dry fruit and pet shops nearby; Bohri Bazar for fabric, bartan and crockery; and the streets around Regal Chowk for laptops, computers and mobiles. It is crowded and loud โ€” and usually the cheapest place in the city for most things.

Everything about it is in the Saddar Karachi Market Guide: Zainab, Empress & More.

Tariq Road and the clothes markets

Tariq Road in PECHS is Karachi's main clothes street: lawn and formal wear, shoes, bags, bridal and party dresses, with malls like Rabi Center and Dolmen Mall along the way. Prices range from bazaar to brand. Hyderi Market in North Nazimabad is the northern equivalent, popular for clothes, shoes and the food stalls around it, and Liaquatabad is known for bridal dresses and a large furniture market.

Cheapest market in Karachi

"Cheapest" depends on what you need, but these are where locals go to save money:

  • Saddar โ€” the widest range at the lowest prices, if you bargain.
  • Lighthouse โ€” second-hand (landa) jackets, sweaters and shoes; best in winter.
  • Sunday bazaars โ€” low-price clothes, shoes and household goods.
  • Liaquatabad โ€” budget clothes and furniture.
  • Jodia Bazar โ€” wholesale prices on groceries, if you buy in bulk.

Mobile, laptop and computer markets

Karachi's electronics shopping centres on Saddar โ€” the mobile market and the computer market at Regal Trade Square โ€” plus mobile shops in every big neighbourhood market. Used phones and laptops are cheaper here, but check them carefully: see How to Check a Used Mobile Before Buying and How to Check a Used Laptop Before Buying, and confirm PTA status with How to Check if a Mobile Is PTA Approved.

Wholesale markets in Karachi

Jodia Bazar, Bolton Market and the cloth markets of the old city supply shops across Pakistan. They are built for bulk buyers and move fast. If you are buying stock for a small business, read Wholesale Markets in Pakistan for Small Sellers first.

Tips before you go

Karachi traffic and parking are the hardest part of bazaar shopping, so plan the route.

  • Use a rickshaw or ride-hailing to Saddar rather than looking for parking.
  • Go before noon on weekdays.
  • Keep your phone in a front pocket in crowded lanes.
  • Compare at least three shops before buying anything expensive.

โš ๏ธ Careful here

Market timings in Pakistan change โ€” city governments set closing times, many markets close one day a week, and Ramadan and Eid change everything. Check the day before you go (a quick call to a shop you know works best), rather than relying on a timing printed online.

Shop Karachi sellers online

If you can't get to a bazaar, dapxop is an online marketplace where small independent sellers from across Pakistan list handmade and small-batch products โ€” jewellery, clothing, gifts, crochet, home dรฉcor and more โ€” and dapxop arranges delivery to your door.
