Weekly bazaars and local markets
Beyond the famous names, most neighbourhoods have a weekly bazaar โ itwar (Sunday), juma (Friday) or mangal (Tuesday) bazaars โ selling fruit, vegetables, clothes and household goods at low prices. They move between days and locations, so ask locally. Specialist markets also exist for almost everything: cloth markets, mobile markets, furniture markets, bird markets and, before Eid ul Adha, cattle mandis โ see Birds Market in Pakistan: Karachi, Lahore, Pindi and Cattle Mandi Guide: How to Buy a Bakra or Cow.

Tips for shopping in a Pakistani bazaar
A few habits make bazaar shopping cheaper and safer.
- Walk the whole lane before buying โ the same item is often cheaper three shops down.
- Bargain politely; fixed-price shops will tell you so.
- Go early in the day on weekdays to avoid the evening rush.
- Carry small notes and keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket.
- Check stitching, zips and fabric in daylight before paying.
- Keep receipts for electronics and ask about exchange before you buy.
โ ๏ธ Careful here
Market timings in Pakistan change โ city governments set closing times, many markets close one day a week, and Ramadan and Eid change everything. Check the day before you go (a quick call to a shop you know works best), rather than relying on a timing printed online.
